Jestha Varna Mahavihara, one of the Historic City of Patan, was jointly inaugurated and handed over to the community in a momentous ceremony which was attended by 250 guests. The event was graced by the presence of Honorable Minister Dhan Bahadur Budha, Minister of Urban Development, Government of Nepal, and His Excellency Shri Naveen Srivastava, Ambassador of India to Nepal.

The Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) was founded in 1984 in New Delhi with the vision to spearhead heritage awareness and conservation in India. Join us in commemorating the remarkable journey of the INTACH as it marks four decades of dedicated service in conserving India's rich cultural heritage on 27 January 2024. Along with this, INTACH also marks its 4 year presence in Nepal following appointed in December 2019.

09 February 2024: Honouring Heritage: INTACH’s 40-Year Journey in India, 4 Years in Nepal

In a significant stride towards excellence, our Kathmandu Project Office in Nepal recently welcomed Dr. Arun Menon, a distinguished Professor of Structural Engineering from the esteemed Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras (Chennai, India) for a peer review of the ongoing projects between 26th - 30th November 2023. His role as an expert peer reviewer brought a wealth of experience and insight, elevating the overall quality of our ongoing endeavours in the field of conservation and seismic strengthening of Cultural Heritage sites in Nepal.

30 November 2023: Project Peer Review by Dr. Arun Menon, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Madras (Chennai, India)

India and Nepal held the Joint Project Monitoring Committee (JPMC) meeting on post-earthquake reconstruction projects in Kathmandu. The meeting was co-chaired by Mr. Anurag Srivastava, Jt. Secretary (North), Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, and Mr. Padma Kumar Mainali, Jt.Secretary, Ministry of Urban Development, Government of Nepal. INTACH presented the current status and physical progress while highlighting the hindrances faced in its nine ongoing projects.

07 October 2023: India and Nepal review progress of projects at JPMC Meeting, Kathmandu

Among the five Mahaviharas (INTACH projects) in Historic City of Patan, Shree Napi Chandra Mahavihara was jointly inaugurated and handed over to the community in a momentous ceremony. The event brought together key figures, including Mr. Chiri Babu Maharjan, Mayor of Lalitpur Metropolitan City, and H.E. Mr. Naveen Srivastava, Ambassador of India to Nepal, who graced the occasion. The ceremony, which was witnessed by over 120 attendees, was chaired by Mr. Budhiraj Bajracharya, President of the Lalitpur Development Society.

04 September 2023: Inauguration of Project: Napichandra Mahavihara, Lalitpur

INTACH (Kathmandu Project Office) in partnership with Embassy of India in Kathmandu organized a one-day workshop on Stone Documentation and Conservation at one of 12 project sites; Seto Machindranath Temple aimed at disseminating its technical expertise in conserving stone. The workshop brought together experts from various institutions and local audiences for an exchange of ideas and technical guidance on techniques and approaches for documentation and conservation of stone elements of cultural heritage sites.

23 June 2023: Stone by Stone: Training Workshop on Stone Conservation

INTACH was invited by the Nepal Art Council (NAC) to share their real-time experiences gained through the implementation of the Government of India funded Conservation of Nepal's Cultural Heritage projects. The focus of the event was to highlight the importance of conserving art and its relevance in the Nepali context. The event took place on 25 May 2023, at the Nepal Art Council in Kathmandu, Babarmahal. It witnessed the presence of NAC members, local historians, and artists who gathered to learn from INTACH's experiences and insights in the field of heritage conservation.
