02 February 2024: Keshari Laxmi’s Gift Shapes Chittadhar Memorial Museum (Nepal Bhasa Parishad Project)

INTACH had the distinct honour of engaging with Ms. Keshari Laxmi Manadhar (Niece of Chittadhar) on February 2, 2024. Ms. Keshari, a trailblazer and Nepal’s first woman Ph.D. holder in 1969, played a pivotal role in shaping the narrative for the Chitadhar Memorial Museum, a project under the aegis of Nepal Bhasa Parishad. As the niece of Chitadhar ‘Hridaya,’ Ms. Keshari’s contributions are immeasurable. She not only shared invaluable insights but also provided the foundation for the museum’s curation material by gifting a set of 39 books and other written materials to INTACH. This generous act, marking the base of the museum’s material, has left an indelible mark on all those present, inspiring newfound motivation among the project team.

In a heart-warming conversation at the age of 86, Ms. Keshari shared fond memories of her uncle, Chittadhar Hridaya – a towering literary figure in Nepalese society. Her reflections offered profound insights into the enduring legacy of one of Nepal’s greatest literary figures.

During an engaging session, Ms. Keshari had the opportunity to hear the curated museum narration. Her palpable joy and delight in the presentation were evident, adding a personal touch to the project. Ms. Keshari generously provided feedback and insights, which INTACH is wholeheartedly committed to incorporating into the Chittadhar Memorial Museum. This collaborative effort aims to ensure a comprehensive and authentic representation of Chittadhar Hridaya’s legacy.

The Chittadhar Memorial Museum, shaped by Ms. Keshari’s invaluable input, is not just a repository of books and artifacts but a living testament to the enduring legacy of Chittadhar Hridaya in the cultural tapestry of Nepal.

Being an integral part of the rich legacy of “Nepal Bhasha” fills INTACH with immense pride. Ms. Keshari Laxmi’s trust in the Government of India and INTACH for this project is deeply appreciated, and we extend our heartfelt gratitude for the opportunity to contribute to the preservation of Nepal Bhasa. Together, we are committed to creating a Museum that does justice to Chittadhar’s profound legacy, aiming to make a lasting impact through this collaborative endeavour.
